Shooting the Moon

My first ever attempt to click the full moon. After a series of 4-5 blurry, white solid ball, I finally figured out how to get the grey spots on the moon. A clear picture of the moon! Yaaaay! I finally can click a moon with my Nikon Coolpix L100.

Somehow, sunsets are the best objects to click! Loved the sharp curve of the Sun today...and in seconds it was gone!

It has been one pouring rainy weekend in Bangalore. I managed to quickly capture a wonderful sunset on friday evening, just before heading out! Gorgeous eh! J

First weekend with our new carJ! Unfortunately, I had a tiny but very painful knee injury on my trip to Baroda. So places to visit this weekend were to be analyzed. There are tones of choices to explore around. Living in Electronic city, Tamilnadu is right there…a few miles and you are across the border into the neighboring state. We decided to go to Krishnagiri dam. I don’t have the pictures yet; we happened to take our almost-new Nikon L100 camera with us and my husband got some cool shots of a helicopter  (the fly) and couple of butterflies in the park around the dam. So next day we decided to go to Bannerghatta butterfly park.

Suddenly, out of the blue we both got caught up on this photography. We studied a bit online about butterfly photography. I had an idea of having perfumed objects to carry and attract butterflies. Online studies shattered my idea L. Apparently they won’t be attracted to artificial scents and bright colors scare them away. Butterflies need sunshine to get charged up and flutter around. So morning times are good to capture them in the lenses. Of course, you need real good camera to capture clear pictures from a distance.

It is weird that Indian tourist places charge for cameras. It is obvious tourists will click pictures! So the ticket for adults is 25/- ($0.55) and the same for a camera.

The place is one of those enclosed botanical parks with varieties of butterflies and flowers. When we reached the place, it was 11am and the butterflies were totally charged up and fluttering all around the place. So difficult to get a still picture! Most of the butterflies seem hurt with feather torn in edgesL. But beautiful creatures!

I recently watched this movie - From Prada to nada; in this there is reference to the flower Bird of Paradise and I got to see it in the park!!!! I instantly remembered the scene in the movie and may I say this real one was so beautiful and more colorful than the one shown in the movie!

We took numerous pictures and I am sharing a few good ones here! Butterfly shooting is real fun..and they are gorgeous creatures. The caterpillar form is nothing compared to the butterfly form!!! The small presentation on the life of butterflies, metamorphosis etc was like going back to school. How sad that such beautiful creatures live just 7 days of life!

Nature Show

My Saturday evening was national-geography – Animal Planety! I took my mom to visit to my new house in Electronic city, Bangalore. The area is quite under development and it’s more like farm lands that are being used to expand residential space. Lot of construction sites are under development. We were standing in our gallery on the third floor, looking through the new apartment constructions discussing rising real estate business in Bangalore, the high cost of land and apartments etc.

Suddenly out of the wild plants came out a swirling serpentine snake, swooshing so swift! It was chasing a garden lizard like a chameleon. It was one of those fast car chase scenes in the Hollywood movies! The lizard was super fast to out run the snake and it reached from the field to the road, when the snake stopped and stood in the air like a cobra. Was a beautiful wild scene! It stood in the air for like 3-4 seconds, after which it slid into the bushes! The whole event lasted for about 6 seconds!

I was thinking what each of the wild animals might have felt like. The snake was so close to getting food, all the speed didn’t help it though! And the act of it to stand up in air to look for the lizard was really awesome! Very Animal-Planety! The lizard of course must have had his lucky day! Must have been breathless after that amazing escape! J

It was all so quick, I wished I had a camera to record that event or at least grab some cool pictures of the desperate snake! May be in the future there could be some kind of technology we see in sci-fi movies like Minority Report etc, where you can record things you see by your eyes and then download that information! That would be so cool!

The other incident was that of the phenomenon of TWO RAINBOWS! It is quite a frequent one these days, but I got to see it too! After a quick shower of rains, there was the first rainbow in formation, as it got bolder with the VIBGYOR colors more easily recognizable, we noticed a second one in the background that was being formed. It never got as bold as the first one, but it was pretty cool. There are so many tall buildings in the area, that a far away building almost was “rainbow-ed” in my view! J

We discussed what would be the scientific reason of two rainbows phenomenon. We came up with conclusions that the sun rays were refracted due to the small clouds in between which caused the two rainbow effect. Well, apparently it is because of double reflection of sun rays inside the raindrops.
